Targeting Japan's Web3 Boom with a New Scaling Solution: Astar and Polygon

Astar Network announced its partnership with Polygon Labs to introduce Astar zkEVM, a new Ethereum layer two scaling solution based on zero-knowledge proof technology, during the Token2049 conference in Singapore. The partnership intends to promote higher uptake of Web3 apps both within and outside of the Japanese market.

Launch of zkEVM by Astar and Polygon for the Web3 Rise in Japan

The cooperation, according to the statement, combines Polygon's highly scalable zk-powered infrastructure with Astar's experience working with big Japanese corporations like Sony and Toyota. The teams will work together to provide the best framework for launching blockchain projects in Japan, where government officials have expressed support for Web3 innovation.

Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon, said of the new endeavor: "Asia is currently one of the most forward-thinking regions in the world when it comes to adoption of Web3, and we are delighted to help Japan's blockchain sector grow even faster via our collaboration with Astar."

As an entry point for foreign entertainment and gaming ventures in Japan, Astar zkEVM seeks to provide a flexible solution for multinational businesses wishing to incorporate blockchain technology. Astar can integrate cutting-edge zero-knowledge proofs into the Ethereum L2 (layer two) technology to integrate into the Ethereum ecosystem.

Astar Network's creator, Sota Watanabe, claims that this eliminates obstacles for developers and end users and is consistent with Astar's mission to promote widespread adoption in Japan's expanding Web3 market. Watanabe thinks the Astar zkEVM can offer appealing features including security improvements and parity with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. According to the collaboration statement, integration with already-in-use Ethereum products also simplifies the onboarding process for new users.

In addition to fostering distinctive and iconic use cases in Japan and internationally to help businesses launch their blockchain projects, Watanabe said that Astar would also work closely with Polygon Labs to "strengthen Japan's role as the epicenter of the Web3 movement."
