Robert Kennedy Jr. Promises to End White House War on Bitcoin — Says We Need 'Freedom Currency' That Government Can't Control

If elected President of the United States, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.), a candidate for the position, has pledged to put an end to the White House's campaign against bitcoin. The presidential candidate pledged, "I'm going to make sure that bitcoin is protected, that people can have their own wallets, that the current White House war on bitcoin will end, that transactions will be protected and promoted.

The Bitcoin Promises of RFK Jr.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.), a contender for the presidency of the United States, spoke with Bitcoin Magazine about a range of subjects, including bitcoin. RFK Jr. is the nephew of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy and the son of former U.S. Attorney General and Senator Robert F. Kennedy.

As President of the United States, the presidential candidate promised to:

I'll see to it that transactions are secured, that people can keep their own wallets, that the present White House war on bitcoin is put an end to, and that bitcoin is protected.

Additionally, he said that he would "ultimately look at treating it [bitcoin] as a currency, rather than a commodity, particularly for smaller bitcoin owners."

In response to a question about how he would carry out his promises, Kennedy said, "I'm going to accomplish everything without going to Congress. I'll accomplish it through influencing Treasury policy. He observed:

Legislation is not the main driver of many of the negative policies affecting bitcoin; rather, it is White House policy. I will therefore put a stop to the conflict.

RFK Jr. responded, "I'm very concerned about all the government attacks on bitcoin," when asked if he was worried about the government's influence over bitcoin mining. What I would like to do is offer at least a small amount of Treasury notes that are backed by physical assets, such as bitcoin, platinum, gold, silver, and other hard assets.

Kennedy Jr. said that his interest in bitcoin increased after he saw how the government responded to nonviolent demonstrators in Ottawa during the truckers' strike, including the closing of their bank accounts without any charges or convictions. "Without any charges being brought against them, and most definitely without any convictions, but simply to silence them," he claimed, "the government used surveillance techniques to determine their identities, to determine their license plates on their cars, and then close their bank accounts and deprive them of their access to their own money."

"At that point, I started to realize how crucial freedom of commerce is, just like freedom of speech. I can see this trajectory toward central bank digital currencies [CBDCs] and the ultimate control it would give governments over whether we live or die in the end," he said, elaborating:

And I realized that we require a money that represents freedom, is independent, and cannot be manipulated by the state.
