Kenyan Minister: A recent attempt to detain Worldcoin representatives was thwarted by the US government.

Two Worldcoin executives were recently detained by Kenyan law police as they tried to leave the nation. The two were ultimately released after the U.S. government intervened, according to the Kenyan Interior Minister.

According to reports, the US government steps in to prevent a Worldcoin-related arrest attempt.

According to Kenya's Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki, recent attempts to arrest and imprison Worldcoin officials by local law enforcement were thwarted by the United States government. The United States argued that the leaving executives had not committed any crimes that would have justified their arrest, according to a report in The Nation. The American government committed to making the executives available as needed.

According to Bitcoin.com News, Kenyan officials have been harshly criticizing the cryptocurrency project. However, the Worldcoin officials, lead by Alex Blania, recently testified before a parliamentary committee entrusted with looking into the operations of the cryptocurrency initiative in an effort to placate the Kenyan government.

Kindiki confirmed the failed scheme to imprison Blania and his fellow Worldcoin officials indefinitely, saying:

They (the Worldcoin executives) attempted to escape the country but were detained. The U.S. government intervened, arguing that they should be permitted to depart since they haven't yet been found guilty of a crime, and it pledged to turn them over if necessary.

The other Worldcoin representative that was taken into custody with Blania is said to be Thomas Scott, the legal agent for Tools for Humanity.

Just a few days before to the Kenyan government's attempt to link cryptocurrency-related activities to money laundering and terrorism funding, Kindiki made its attempt to detain the pair. Kindiki reportedly stated, during his personal appearance before the investigating committee of the parliament, that the Worldcoin fiasco validates his government's position regarding cryptocurrencies in general.
